Mexican YouTuber Gets 50 Years Sentence for Bitcoin Extortion Scheme
A YouTuber associated with an alleged band of Bitcoin extortioners was captured in the wake of leaving a blockchain trail for authorities to follow.
As indicated by a report by Milenio, the 25-year-old YouTuber German Abraham Loera Acosta was purportedly the instigator for a band of criminals that kidnapped a lady in Chihuahua in February 2018. The gathering supposedly blackmailed experts for $103,000 in Bitcoin (2 million pesos) in return for the victim’s release.
In the wake of getting the payoff, Acosta endeavored to contact Mexican digital currency exchange Bitso over Twitter as a potential avenue for laundering the cryptocurrency. Acosta claimed to be engaged with the cryptocurrency betting business.
He stated,
“I’d like to speak to you. We are the heads of marketing for the biggest bitcoin casinos in the world.”
Bitso declined to react to Acosta’s message at last.
Notwithstanding, Chihuahua lead prosecutor Cesar Penich depicting Acosta as “experienced” in web correspondence, authorities had the option to follow the payment through Bitcoin’s blockchain. Police captured Acosta, notwithstanding, holding onto three vehicles, a handgun and cell phones used in the kidnapping.
Acosta was condemned to 50 years in jail for his job in the blackmail conspire.
