UK’s National Cyber Security Center Releases List of Hackable Passwords

The National Cyber Security Center of UK has surveyed to discover which were the most common passwords to be breached by hackers. Unsurprisingly, “123456” tops the list with 23.2 million recorded breaches. It is the poster child for the worst password one would ever keep, bar none.

However, here are some more hackable passwords which were discovered to be the worst of the worst –

1. 123456789 (7.7M)
2. 1111111 (3.1M)
3. abc123 (2.8M)
4. password1 (2.4M)
5. Iloveyou (1.6M)
6. Qwertyuiop (1.1M)
7. 123 (1M)
8. Monkey (980k)
9. Dragon (968k)

Just two passwords, ‘123456’ and ‘123456789,’ lead the pack with 30 million recorded breaches altogether.

Protect Your Digital Currency Using Strong Passwords

Remember that you need not use something like your first name, a discernible pattern, local band, or anything which can be easily guessed when creating a password. It may be a good idea to stay away from intelligible words. Besides, your password needs to be a string of random-but-memorable letters, says the UK’s National Cyber Security Center.

You should not use any of the abovementioned passwords for your Bitcoin wallet or any other cryptocurrency wallet. This is the worst possible way of securing your digital tokens, coins and assets. In case you happen to be using any of these worst passwords, then you need to change that right away.

We all have heard it many times that we should make strong passwords. You should never take it lightly, yet a surprising amount of people use easily guessable passwords.

After all, it looks like many crypto hacks usually come down to simple poor password management. Besides an easy password, failing to activate two-factor authentication is often the primary reason why someone’s exchange account gets hacked.

It is generally a good idea to make every password different. Don’t use the same password across various exchanges, since then you are compromised easily on multiple platforms if hacked. Today, password managers make it easy to maintain a different password for every account you have.
