In 2019, SEC chair Gensler proposed to assist Binance as an advisor: Lawyers assert

Gary Gensler allegedly offered Binance his advising services years before taking over as head of the SEC.

Gensler was inaugurated into office on April 17, 2021, after being nominated by American president Joe Biden to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission in February 2021.

He taught global economics and management practice at the MIT Sloan School of Management before joining the SEC. He presided over the Maryland Financial Consumer Protection Commission from 2017 to 2019.

According to attorneys for Binance and founder Changpeng Zhao, Gary Gensler, the chair of the SEC, once proposed to help Binance in 2019, CNBC writes.

In documents submitted to the SEC on June 7, lawyers from Gibson & Dunn and Latham & Watkins claim that in conversations with Zhao and other Binance executives in March 2019, Gensler proposed to act as an advisor to the exchange.
