Top Cryptocurrencies See Slight Gains As 2019 Begins

The top 20 coins are seeing moderate gains over the period of 24 hours. After falling below the mark, Bitcoin has scaled back above $3,800.

Bitcoin (BTC)

Currently, Bitcoin (BTC) is up 3.18% and is trading at $3,859.29. On its weekly chart, the dominating cryptocurrency is still down by over 5%, which is lower than that of December 29, 2018 high of $3,961.

Ripple (XRP)

Ripple is the second largest cryptocurrency by its market capitalization, and is only growing. At press time, it is up over 3.77%, and currently trading at $0.3677, down from a weekly high of $0.390 on December 26, 2018.

Ethereum (ETH)

The world’s 3rd largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum (ETH) is gaining on Ripple (XRP), which overtook ETH last year in September.

The divide in the market capitalization between the two digital currencies has continued to end over the the day. Ethereum and XRP, at press time, have market capitalizations of $14.7 billion and $14.79 billion, respectively.

Now, Ethereum is up by 6.24% on the day and is trading at $142.84.

Cryptocurrencies Are in Green

All of the top 20 cryptocurrencies are in green. Some alternative cryptocurrencies seeing gains are Bitcoin SV and Monero (XMR), which are up 4.41% and 7.65% over the 24-hour period, respectively.

Earlier today, Monero made an announcement that it was the exclusive digital currency to be accepted at the online merchandise store of the most popular multiplayer video game “Fortnite.”

Total Market Cap

Total cryptocurrency market capitalization is currently $129.8 billion, which is slightly down from its weekly high of $134.3 billion.

As the new year knocks, experts and industry veterans are making their predictions for how the cryptocurrency market will fare in 2019. Earlier today, Fred Wilson, a venture capitalist, said that crypto will not be a safe haven for investors in the coming time.
