Utah to Introduce Blockchain-based Mobile Voting

Recently, a press release published on the 23rd July has announced that Utah County of the United States will begin to offer the option of blockchain-based mobile voting in the upcoming municipal primary election. With this development, Utah County will become the third jurisdiction in the country to offer blockchain-based mobile voting in their area.

Utah County is a part of US state Utah, and is one of its 29 counties. It will now allow all eligible voters to download a specific mobile application on their smartphones, and use that app to cast their vote in the upcoming municipal primary elections. Earlier, the states of West Virginia and Colorado had also introduced voting tech based in blockchain.

The pilot run of the e-voting will go on from the 28th of June to 13th of August. The pilot has been developed jointly by several entities; namely, the Utah County Elections Division, mobile elections platform Voatz, Tusk Philanthropies, and the National Cybersecurity Center.

Those who will take part in the pilot voting, will include military personnel who are currently in active service, their dependents who are eligible, and other voters who live overseas.

The opportunity for these Utahns to vote via smartphone means they will more securely participate in the democratic processes they are serving to protect.”
