Coinbase’s COO and President Resigns

Any individual interested in the world of cryptocurrency, os surely to be familiar with the name of Coinbase, an American major cryptocurrency exchange. Now, according to reports by Bloomberg, Coinbase’s president and chief operating officer (COO) Asiff Hirji has left the company. A source familiar with the entire issue told Bloomberg that Coinbase named Emilie Choi, as their new Chief Operating Agent. He was formerly the vice president of business, data and international. Before starting his work at Coinbase, Choi has been an employee at Yahoo Inc. and had worked on the original Alibaba investment and Flickr acquisition. At Coinbase he also worked on potential partnerships and acquisitions at Coinbase.

Hirji’s previous work experience is truly extremely expansive, spanning 15 organizations, including the likes of IBM Canada, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, information technology company Hewlett-Packard, and Saxo Bank, among others.

It can be seen that in the recent months, Coinbase has lost several of its senior executives, including Tim Plakas, former head of OTC at Coinbase, who left the company to join cryptocurrency bank founded by Michael Novogratz, Galaxy Digital, and compliance officers Mikheil Moucharrafie and Jeff Cartwright who joined Facebook. It was in early May that Coinbase’s chief technology officer, Balaji Srinivasan also announced his departure from the company. In his tweet, Srinivasan said that he had enjoyed his time at the exchange and that he will now take time off “to get back in shape — and up to speed on everything happening” when he was busy working at Coinbase.

With all these employees leaving it is only a matter to time that can tell what is next for the US crypto exchange.
