Shperity Notifies with Decentralized ID’s to Maintain Social Distancing

Shperity, a Berlin-based blockchain startup has released a decentralized identity prototype that helps people get the medicines along with following the rule to maintain proper social distancing.

Carsten Stocker, CEO of Spherity confirms with the statement that they can see a wide range of opportunity when it comes to social distancing to get decentralized ID. “People are spending maximum time on their smartphones, but doctors and government offices interact with legacy infrastructure – this concludes the gap as possible.

The E-Rezept prototypes are relying on self-sovereign identity (SSI) which is a platform that manages attributes that have digital identity in a decentralized manner. Moving things away from password-based centralized architectures enables the owners of personal data to manage controlling and share it without disturbing any privacy policy.

Last summer, Germany passed legislation with an intention to help digital-based pharmacies. As most of the engineering transformations would take years to finish, the coronavirus pandemic has made it possible to head-start the solution in just a few weeks.

Spherity made a contribution in the WirVsVirus virtual hackathon which was conducted by the German Government. The Company was one among 40,000 participants.

Stocker strongly believes that the E-Rezept project was the idea behind his mother, who didn’t want to visit places where doctors are overcrowded or to visit them just to renew pharmaceutical prescriptions. As people are unaware about identity verification and this is the reason patients are required to renew pharmaceutical prescriptions.

As Spherity prototype has the policy of having patients to get their digital fingerprints in wallets so that by accessing doctors can find the information about the patient. Once the KYC credentials are matches their records, an electronic prescription can be issued to the patient.

Stocker states that they are taking help of smartphone wallets and cloud agent infrastructure. This could be integrated with other SSI solutions such as Hyperledger Indy. They further confirms that the next digital step will be to connect the patient’s wallet to an online pharmacy. Understanding the need to reduce traffic on critical infrastructure and risk of contagion, urgent social distancing would be best option to carry forward the idea of e-medicine.
