Popular Korean Crypto YouTuber Viciously Assaulted by Angry Investors

Kyu-hoon “Spunky” Hwang, a South Korean cryptocurrency YouTuber, was recently attacked and badly beaten in an elevator in his apartment building, soon after threats to his company’s staff from investors.

According to CoinDesk Korea, the YouTuber was attacked at around 01:00 O’clock on January 10, 2020.

Seoul’s Seongdong police station stated –

“It was seeking two suspects who attacked Hwang with a blunt weapon and then escaped. While the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, he’s reported to be receiving treatment in hospital.”

A community notice from CoinRunners, which is a trading group led by Hwang’s company Bit Gosu, stated –

“It is judged to be a planned crime aimed at [Hwang’s] life.”

The entire team expressed in the notice that they were left awestruck and would focus on the security after Hwang is released from the hospital.

The self-proclaimed “influencer” has been talking about digital currency on his YouTube channel, known as Spunky’s Bitcoin Broadcasting. According to the reports, he has been discussing about the cryptocurrency since October 2017, at the time he launched Bit Gosu. The YouTube channel has nearly 59,000 subscribers, which makes Hwang one of the most popular cryptocurrency YouTubers in South Korea.

Bit Gosu reportedly has been involved in virtual currency-associated marketing including Initial Coin Offerings, and has a total of 10 employees. Also, it has obliged something of a scandal, after CoinRunner members were believed to have lost funds.

CoinRunner, in the notice, said that some of the members had threatened ‘to kill employees’ ultimately.

Reports say that CoinRunner is a member-only service in South Korea with nearly 1,000 subscribers offering both free as well as paid ‘gold’ memberships. According to the reports, members are offered digital currency price analysis from Hwang and then they receive recommendations on ICO-related investments.

The reports say –

“CoinRunners, CoinRunners Gold and Bitcoin YouTube channels will be temporarily suspended, and we will decide whether to resume business.”

Currently, Hwang’s channel is still active.
