BTC Wires: The trend of celebrities endorsing cryptocurrencies is one that is not going out of fashion anytime soon. The newest star to jump on that bandwagon is none other than Madonna. One of the biggest pop stars in the music industry, Madonna has decided to partner with the crypto startup Ripple to raise funds for orphans in Malawi, a poor country in southeastern Africa. According to the International Monetary Fund, it is one of the poorest countries in the world with more than fifty per cent of the people living below the poverty line.

This collaboration and fundraiser is a way to mark the star’s 60th birthday which is on the 16th of August. Madonna is the co-founder of a non-profit organization called Raising Malawi. She co-founded this organization with Michael Berg, best known for being the screenwriter of Ice Age. All donations are set to go to this organization on the eve of her birthday and Ripple has given their word to match all the donations that will take place during the drive. The Home of Hope Orphanage in Malawi is the institute that will receive all the proceeds.

The campaign already began on 30th July and is scheduled to end on 31st August. Within two days, it has already raised $26,000  from around 540 people within two days.

This charity is very important, Ripple’s senior vice president of business operations Eric van Miltenburg explained:

“We’re honored to be a part of Raising Malawi’s amazing work with some of the world’s most underserved children and are grateful to our investors at Sound Ventures for making the introduction to us and this important cause.”

According to Madonna, this fundraising event will serve as a gift “connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most” for her birthday.
