Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the topic of discussion for more than a decade and many prominent people have come forward claiming it as a threat to humanity. Elon Musk and Sam Altman have frequently warned against the consequences of a world where a machine has more power than an institution.

The initial phase of crypto was dominated by the demand of anonymity and security which surely helped in creating a system which can provide countermeasures for the issues with centralized systems. However, the problem of AI is less abstract than it usually meets the eye of a layman. The current political scenario in different states thrives on social media algorithms which can probably answer how easily an organization was able to manipulate user behavior all thanks to AI.

Mark Zuckerberg might have been able to counter Congressmen questions about internet and its safety. However, what he did not mention clearly was that the internet is no longer compatible with the nation-state.

People often confuse AI with the tech of the future, which would be in the form of computer systems or intelligent robots. However, this understanding is not only far from the truth, but also neglects the gravity of the situation. As Elon Musk rightly pointed out in the podcast with Joe Rogan, that the AI is not anymore a future tech but an ever-evolving system capable of processing millions of data and turning more powerful every day.

The current human behavior can easily be tracked through their social media platforms which continuously monitors likes, dislikes, comments, places one visits, their eating habits and literally everything. The social media giants like Facebook and Google understood the power of data quite early and their whole system has been converted into a big data churning AI ecosystem. Since earlier human and interaction was limited, while as of today it has become our life with 24-hour online tracking.

How Blockchain and Decentralization can Put a curb on Data meddling by Tech Giants

Decentralization can be the answer to many of our issues and problems not just with the data mishandling and overload of AI. People often do not understand the importance of their data unless something bad happens to a particular society or individual. The United States got a taste through a Russian Meddling while users of Facebook were shocked when they came to know that their data is being sold to the highest bidder.

So what is the solution? Blockchain and decentralization, the implementation is quite simple. You can put your internet user data on a blockchain platform or dApp, and in order for anyone to use it, they need to have your consent as well as need to pay a certain amount for using the data. This way not only your data is secure and safe but also you have the total control where you know who and how they are using your info.

The Satoshi’s original vision of ‘one CPU one vote’ can only be achieved through digitalization and distributed control. With correct implementation and people behind the cause, the monopoly of Facebook and Google tech giants will be reduced to a service provider rather than the force which can manipulate a big election like US Presidential Elections of 2016.

The debate over ever-expanding power of AI can be fairly assessed only when the tech giants like Facebook and Google become more transparent and less authoritative. However, that seems to be a far-fetched dream. However, blockchain technology in the last decade has garnered enough attention and have evolved quite rapidly to come to the rescue of humans against overloading AI.

Governments must put in their effort to curb the powers of these tech giants and implement decentralization at a broader scale to save the future.
