Gibraltar to Develop Blockchain Related Educational Courses

Another country is planning to offer blockchain education. According to the national news outlet, the Gibraltar Chronicle, the government of Gibraltar collaborated with the University of Gibraltar to create an advisory group, the New Technologies in Education (NTiE). The main focus of the group is to develop blockchain and other emerging technologies related to educational courses.

According to the minister with responsibility for the University of Gibraltar, Hon Gilbert Licudi QC MP by creating that kind of group we will be able to address the skill requirements. For the development of the distributed ledger technology (DLT), it is essential to provide access to innovative education courses.

NTiE is a joint initiative of Gibraltar government, University of Gibraltar, and some leading tech companies based in the country. The NTiE group will address the increasing demand for related skills in the private sector as well as public sector. It will also help to expand the new technologies.

Minister for Commerce, the Hon Albert Isola MP, said that recently, New York University became the first university in the United States to offer its students a chance to major in blockchain technology. He added, half of the top 50 universities worldwide offering courses in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Most of these universities are based in the United States. According to Albert

“For us to achieve our goal of a successful, long-term and sustainable business sector for Gibraltar, it is imperative that we educate all different levels. The creation of this advisory group is a key step in achieving this.”

With the new courses, the university will develop and enhance expertise in emerging technologies including blockchain, distributed ledger technology (DLT), coding, smart contracts, etc. The courses are expected to launch later this year will be backed by significant input from industry players who are in the process of becoming licensed by the Gibraltar Service Commission.

“Providing access to innovative courses with expert input from those using this technology in the private sector is a vital component in the development of a sustainable distributed ledger technology (DLT) commercial community in Gibraltar.”

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory which is a self-governing and self-financing democracy. In recent years, Gibraltar developed itself as a reliable centre for digital assets and blockchain industry. In January, Gibraltar became the first jurisdiction in the world to introduce legislation related to DLT. The territory is globally renowned for creating a sustainable and secure regulatory framework for DLT.
