Crypto To Be Accepted As Legitimate Payment For Phone Bill: Says At&T

One of the largest mobile carrier companies in the US, AT&T, has given cryptocurrency a green signal. The company has announced that it will now be accepting cryptocurrency as payments, through BitPay.

In a short press release note, the company delivered this bold new message signalling a whole new level of mainstream acceptance for crypto. It’s quite understandably, the biggest news in the crypto market at the moment.

Customers will have the option to pay their phone bill via BitPay Online or through official company app myAT&T. The company has completed the integration with BitPay which is a popular bitcoin payment service provider that is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

With this move, AT&T, which has more than 150 million subscribers as of Q4 2018, will become the first US firm to accept cryptocurrency as a payment. Vice president of AT&T Communications Finance Business Operation- Kevin McDorman said:

We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our services.We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer

What BitPay will essentially do in this collaboration is that it will process the cryptocurrency and give AT&T the payment in regular cash.

Currently, the customers can only pay off their mobile bills via crypto. The company hasn’t revealed whether or not in the future, they will allow customers to make purchases of their products online, or in the stores,

Other companies like Microsoft, Expedia, Subway, Shopify, and Overstock have also started accepting Cryptocurrency payments.
