Are Justin Sun’s Followers Fake?

By Rishma Banerjee

With the growth in the popularity of cryptocurrencies, several individuals have also risen to the forefront of the industry, either as experts or as enthusiasts. Justin Sun, the Founder of Tron, has been known for quite some time to be a vocal presence in the crypto community also boasting of a tremendous twitter follower base. However, it seems that one user has recently been able to uncover something regarding the new Twitter followers that Sun has recently gained.

Why Twitter user @geoffgolberg tries to analyse Sun’s follower base, is unclear, but the analysis that he has conducted reveals that many of Sun’s last 50,000 followers, which took his follower count past the 1 million mark, may well be fake.  The research carried out by @geoffgolberg seems to be authentic and it shows that at least half of those accounts were likely created by bots, and may not belong to real Tron enthusiasts.

Justin Sun has been a name to reckon with in the crypto space, and many enthusiasts

are appreciative of his bullish attitude while also taking into account the massive and rapid growth of the TRX network. Others, however, see him as nothing more than a self-promoting and dishonest shill. This conundrum has often led to minor and major disagreements with a number of important figures in crypto, in the past. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has been known to be a frequent critic of Sun. With the tweet by @geoffgolberg, many observers are seeing this as further evidence of Sun’s deception. However, others pointed out that fake accounts are incredibly prevalent in the crypto space and on Twitter generally. Some may have just been created in order to have more chances at winning the recent million-dollar giveaway that Sun announced, although it is likely that he predicted this outcome when he came up with the idea for the competition.
